Bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure we use frequently at Oak Hills Dentistry. It’s one of the easiest ways we have to improve the appearance of a tooth that is broken or chipped. It can even help with discoloration!
Bonding is a fairly simple and straight-forward procedure. In fact, in most cases we don’t even need to use anesthesia, unless we’re filling a cavity – another of bonding’s many applications. Depending on the complexity of a given case, bonding usually takes thirty minutes to an hour.
After roughening the part of the tooth we’re working on, we apply a bonding agent.The composite resin material attaches to the tooth. Once the resin is in place, it is molded into shape and hardened with an ultraviolet light.
Finally, the composite material is polished into its final appearance. We’re generally able to match its color to the color of your teeth, so when we’re done, the treated area is virtually indistinguishable.
