Your first visit, without the guesswork.

What happens, how long it takes, and what to bring.

Welcome

Now accepting new patients.

Oak Hills Dentistry is a small practice on Louetta Road in Spring, led by Dr. Neal H. Patel. If it has been six months or sixteen years since your last visit, the first appointment is the same: look properly, explain plainly, then decide together.

The first visit

What actually happens.

Sixty to ninety minutes. No surprises, and nothing agreed on the day that you have not had explained.

  1. Step 1: A conversation first

What brought you in, what has happened before, what you want from your teeth, and what you would rather we did not do. Ten minutes here saves a lot later.

  2. Step 2: A full look

X-rays where they are due, gum pocket measurements charted tooth by tooth, a check of every tooth and existing restoration, your bite and joints, and an oral cancer screening.

  3. Step 3: Cleaning, or a plan for it

Most first visits include a cleaning. If there is heavy build-up or active gum disease, we will stage it across appointments rather than rush one.

  4. Step 4: A written plan you take home

What is healthy, what we are watching, what needs doing now, what can reasonably wait: sequenced, with an estimate, in plain language.

What to bring.

Four things. Nothing else needed.

  • Insurance details

Your card or plan information, if you have coverage.

  • Medication list

Everything you take, including supplements. This matters for anesthetic and healing.

  • Medical history

Conditions, allergies and past reactions to dental treatment or anesthetic.

  • About 60–90 minutes

A first visit is longer than a routine one. Arrive a few minutes early to do paperwork.

No insurance?

There is a plan for that.

If you are coming in without dental insurance, you are in good company, and it does not have to mean putting a first visit off. We run our own membership plan covering routine care. It has its own page, kept current by the people who administer it, which is where to look rather than taking a figure from us.

If you are dreading it

Say so, and we work differently.

A large share of adults avoid dentistry entirely because of fear, and the reasons are usually specific rather than vague: a bad experience, a dentist who did not stop, a feeling of being trapped, a gag reflex, or shame about how long it has been.

All of that is workable, and most of it does not need sedation:

  • Tell us when you book so we can allow more time
  • Agree a hand signal that stops everything, immediately, no questions
  • Ask for narration. Knowing what is coming next changes how it feels
  • Split treatment into shorter appointments rather than one long one
  • Bring headphones. Bring someone with you. Both are fine

If you want more than that, nitrous oxide and minimal oral conscious sedation are both available here, and we will screen your medical history before agreeing either.

FAQ

New patient questions.

Call 281-350-8852 and speak to our team, or send an appointment request through this site and we will call you back at the time of day you choose. The site cannot confirm a booking on its own; a person will always ring you to agree the time.

Plan on sixty to ninety minutes. It is longer than a routine check because it includes a full exam, charting and imaging, and because the conversation at the start is worth doing properly.

Bring your plan details, or call ahead with them. Our team will go through your benefits with you and give you a written estimate before any treatment is agreed, so you are not guessing. Specific plans and networks are best confirmed by phone.

Then we sequence it. Very few treatment plans have to happen in one go. We stabilize what is causing pain or actively getting worse, then work through the rest in an order that makes clinical and financial sense, sometimes across insurance benefit years. Ask, and we will build the plan that way from the start.

Tell us when you book, and again when you arrive. We can go slower, narrate every step, agree a hand signal that stops everything, and split treatment into shorter appointments. Nitrous oxide and minimal oral conscious sedation are both available if you want them. Nobody here will lecture you about the gap since your last visit.

Yes, patients of all ages. If a child needs care better delivered by a pediatric specialist, we will tell you and refer.

Sometimes, for small things. Most treatment plans are better staged, and anything involving healing, laboratory work or bone integration has to be. We will lay out the number of visits before you commit to anything.

That is a completely reasonable reason to come in, and it is welcome. Bring the plan you were given elsewhere, along with any X-rays if you can get copies. We will tell you where we agree, where we would do something different, and why.
